Honda Toyota and BMW included in Massive Airbag Recall

Car manufacturers are recalling millions of vehicles with faulty airbags that can rupture during a crash and shoot shrapnel at drivers and passengers. Three people have sustained injuries from airbags after being hit with pieces o f metal from an exploding airbag, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The reports to NHTSA involve a 2005 model year Honda Civic, a 2003 model year Toyota Corolla and a 2005 model year Mazda 6. These cars and many others were manufactured with the defective airbags supplied by Takata Corporation.

NHTSA believes that all vehicles manufactured with these airbags during the same time period as those involved in the airbag injury reports may also be at risk for airbag rupture.

NHTSA’s report prompted a massive airbag recall in June 2014. The model year vehicles included in the airbag recall are:

• 2001-2005 BMW 3 Series Sedan and Sports Wagon
• 2001-2006 BMW 3 series Coupe and Convertible
• 2005-2007 Ford Mustang
• 2005-2006 Ford GT
• 2004 Ford Ranger
• 2013-2014 Chevy Cruze
• 2001-2007 Honda Accord
• 2001-2005 Honda Civic
• 2002-2006 Honda CR-V
• 2003-2011 Honda Element
• 2002-2005 Honda Odyssey
• 2002-2007 Honda Pilot
• 2006 Honda Ridgeline
• 2003-2006 Acura MDX
• 2005 Acura RL
• 2002-2003 Acura TL and CL
• 2003-2007 Mazda 6
• 2004-2008 Mazda RX 8
• 2006-2007 Mazdaspped 6
• 2003-2005 Toyota Corolla
• 2003-2005 Toyota Matrix
• 2003-2005 Toyota Sequoia
• 2003-2005 Toyota Tundra
• 2003-2005 Lexus SC
• 2003-2005 Pontiac Vibe

Chrysler and Nissan have not yet provided details about specific vehicles affected by the airbag recall. Nissan expects to recall 755,000 vehicles, according to Huffington Post.
