Byetta & Januvia Linked to Pancreatic Cancer

Comments Off

According to a new study, conducted by Dr. Singh of the John Hopkins University School of Medicine, adults with Type II diabetes who are taking the medication Januvia or Byetta may now face double the risk of developing acute pancreatitis. Pancreatitis, known to cause a myriad of complications, has been directly link to pancreatic cancer, a disease known for high morbidity and mortality rates. The study should serve as a warning to consumers regarding the risks associated with the medication, and should act as encouragement to find alternative methods of treatment.

In Dr. Singh's study, subjects who consumed the drugs Januvia or Byetta were shown to have a two fold increase in prevalence of pancreatic cancer, giving doctors the first real study to conclusively estimate the medication’s risks. Thyroid cancer was also found to be a potential complication of the medication. These results only confirm a long standing concern surrounding the use of the medication, with the FDA issuing warnings due to use of the drugs as early as 2007.

The link between the medications and pancreatic cancer has many seeking both medical and legal advice to ensure that they remain healthy and protect their rights due to medication use. Anyone diagnosed with pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, or thyroid cancer after using either of these medications should seek legal representation immediately. There are many already coming forward and seeking damages for their complications, you are not alone.
