What Are Hip Recall Symptoms?

In the past few years, a number of metal-on-metal hip implants have been recalled due to high early failure rates.   A failed hip replacement can often lead to metal poisoning. The metal poisoning occurs when the metal hip components grind against each other and corrode, disbursing metal particles out into the blood stream.

If you have a recalled hip, you should receive a letter from your doctor or orthopedic surgeon advising you that your orthopedic device has been recalled.  However, you should contact your doctor immediately if start to experience symptoms of hip replacement failure.

There are a number of hip recall symptoms.   You may think that the only defective hip replacement symptom is that the hip breaks again and you are forced to undergo a revision surgery,  or that you have trouble walking.  However when it comes to metal poisoning, you may not know what to expect.

Symptoms of hip replacement failure associated with metal poisoning include:

• Flu-like symptoms
• Fibromyalgia
• Cardiomyopathy
• Tremors, loss of balance
• Blurred vision/loss of vision
• Deafness or Tinnitus
• Pseudotumors
• Hypothyroidism
• Loss of Memory
• Kidney Failure
• Anxiety
• Headaches
• Rashes
