A heart attack is serious. Patients are often advised to go to the emergency room if they believe they are suffering symptoms of a heart attack. However, while you as a patient may be doing your part, the doctors and staff may not always be doing their part. Roughly 1 in 50 heart attacks are not correctly diagnosed.

Failure to diagnose a heart attack is serious. Delayed diagnosis of a heart attack and delayed treatment can often mean the difference life and death.

The most common heart attack symptoms include:

• Chest pain or discomfort
• Upper body discomfort
• Shortness of breath
• Breaking out in a cold sweat
• Feeling unusually tired for no reason, sometimes for days
• Nausea (feeling sick to the stomach) and vomiting
• Feeling light-headed or sudden dizziness

Unfortunately, a heart attack misdiagnosis does happen. The emergency room staff may attribute one or more of the above symptoms to another condition such as anxiety, and fail to run the proper tests.

Sadly, a misdiagnosed heart attack means an untreated heart attack and an untreated heart attack can result in long term cardiovascular problems or even death: Death that could have been prevented had the heart attack been properly diagnosed.

If you suffered from severe cardiac injuries, or lost a loved one due to a misdiagnosed heart attack, you may be eligible to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the doctor or hospital that misdiagnosed the heart attack.

Although the damage cannot be undone, as a victim of medical negligence, you deserve justice.
