Medical Malpractice and Wrongful Death Lawsuits

When a person dies as a result of a medical mistake caused by a negligent doctor or healthcare worker, it is considered a wrongful death. Although wrongful death is not limited to medical errors, medical negligence is the third leading cause of death in the United States, according to a study published in the Journal of Patient Safety.

The most common examples of wrongful death caused by medical malpractice include:

  • Birth Injuries and Delivery Room Complications
  • Hospital Mistakes
  • Medication Errors
  • Misdiagnosis/Failure to Diagnose
  • Surgical Errors

Wrongful death is tragic for the surviving family members. Relatives, who never got to say goodbye, are left to make unexpected arrangements and carry out the victim’s final wishes. What’s more tragic is that the death could have been avoided if the doctor and hospital staff had provided the correct care.

A wrongful death victim may not have planned financially for the possibility of an untimely death. This can make the situation worse for already burdened family members.

When a loved one is lost due to medical malpractice, compensation may be available to help ease the family’s financial burden.  Contact a medical malpractice lawyer in Pennsylvania to find out if you are eligible to file a wrongful death lawsuit.

Is it any wonder that these cases are on the increase. It seems to me that doctors and nurses are overworked and tired. W’ve all heard of the crazy hours some of the medical staff work. I would hate to be on the receiving end of a surgical error but i do feel for the staff.
