This week, the Judicial Panel on Multi-District Litigation (JPML) will hear argument on whether to create a Multi-District Litigation (MDL) for Testosterone lawsuits in general and/or Androgel lawsuits in particular.
Presently, there are a number of lawsuits alleging heart attacks, strokes or other cardiovascular injuries from users of testosterone, including close to 40 Androgel lawsuits pending against Androgel’s manufacturer, Abbvie.
The Androgel and other testosterone lawsuits began after a recent study suggested that treating with testosterone therapy drugs could increase a man’s risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke. Shortly after the report on testosterone side effects was released, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) launched an investigation into the side effects of testosterone drugs. Men who suffered a heart attack or stroke while on Androgel or any other brand of testosterone were not informed of the potential risk of injuries from these drugs and are now filing testosterone lawsuits against the various manufacturers.
