Massive Recall Of Tea Lights Due To Fire And Burn Hazard

In recent years, tea lights have become increasing popular. They are sold in numerous stores in varying scents and colors as well as within decorative holders. However, many of these tea lights pose a serious and sometimes unknown hazard. The Consumer Protection Safety Commission (CPSC) has initiated a voluntary recall of approximately 7.48 million tea light candles. The CPSC has posted pictures of the recalled products on their website.

The recalled tea lights were sold under the names Chesapeake Bay Candle and Modern Light. The actual tea light candle is located within a clear plastic cup that can easily ignite or melt which can cause a serious risk of fire and burns. The CPSC has asked that anyone in possession of the recalled tea lights should immediately stop using the product. Consumers are able to return the tea lights to the store where they purchased them for a merchandise credit. These tea lights were sold at various store including Fred Meyer, Home Goods, Marshalls, Target, TJ Maxx and many others from approximately July 2009 through February 2011.

If you believe that you may be in possession of this product, please log onto the CPSC website for additional information and discontinue your use of these products immediately. Additionally, never place candles, of any type, near a flammable surface and do not leave burning candles unattended.
